HUMAYUN TOMB

Designed in Exile

Within 8 years of ascending the throne Humayun was ousted by Sher Shah Sur in 1538. He spent the next 17 years in exile in Persia. In 1555 he once again won Delhi back but died 7 months later. While in exile, it is surmised, he picked up the nuances of Persian architecture, which, though he was not involved in the construction of his tomb, is reflected in the mausoleum.
